Since we launched ActiveLicense just over a month ago, we’ve been working at a feverish pace to add a number of requested features.

As we enter the weekend, we’re excited to announce the first major update to the ActiveLicense platform.

  • New: Sales and Feedback lists now show a “New” icon next to recently created items (Within 3 days).
  • New: Almost all UI elements now feature the Office 2010 UI – Including drop down lists.
  • New: Feedback reporting services are now available.
  • New: Internet Explorer users can now copy, cut, and paste using the ribbon in certain areas (Like a sales item). This includes the ability to copy license keys from a sale.
  • New: A new “stats” bar appears next to the application name showing Revenue, number of sales, activations, license keys, and feedback at a glance.
  • Fixed: Changing the application name now updates the drop down list and title of the page.
  • Fixed: Disabled ribbon buttons no longer appear off-color in Firefox.
  • New: Activation services are now available (See new Demo Center for details).
  • New: Dialogs added to help developers collect information from users without creating their own dialogs.
  • New: A new Demo Center showcases more samples, as well as providing descriptions and both C# and Visual Basic code.

What’s Next?
Even with these major features completed, we still have a number of features left to add, including:

  • PayPal Integration Services
  • Bug Reporting
  • Trial Monitoring – The ability to limit a non-licensed user’s evaluation period.
  • Activations: Allow customers the ability to deactivate.
  • Activations: Log attempts to activate and if they were successful.
  • Ability to block sales and activations to certain regions.
  • Ability to create reports (Graphs, charts, etc.).
  • Access recently opened items (Sales, Customers, etc.).

We are very excited to announce the start of public Beta testing of ActiveLicense, our online .Net software licensing service. For those not familiar with history of ActiveLicense, our first attempt at a licensing system was Atrox, a desktop application dating back to 2007. We weren't happy with the limitations and decided to scrap everything and start over. The end result is something that we believe almost every .Net developer will love.

What's New

  • New Licensing System - When we said scrap everything, we meant it. We recreated the entire licensing system, making it more compact, new and simpler APIs, and much more.
  • Online Service - A major problem with a desktop-based solution is that it's normally limited to a single developer. Even worse, it'll be tied to a single operating system. The management interface is entirely web-based, allowing developers access from anywhere in the world with Internet access. Developers can access ActiveLicense from Safari on their Macbook at home, their iPhone on the go, or from Firefox on their work computer.
  • Multiple User Access - As we mentioned above, the problem with a desktop-based licensing solution is that most don't support a team of developers accessing the company's software licensing system at the same time. ActiveLicense allows easy access to the whole team - Sales, Developers, QA, etc.
  • Hosted Solution - ActiveLicense (And it's web services) are all hosted on our secure corporate servers. No need to purchase servers, create and install sites/services, or worry about managing them. All frees up developers to do what they do best - develop.
  • Single Sign On - "Simple" was a goal we constantly reminded ourselves of when we started ActiveLicense, this is no truer when we started working on security. We opted to use the same system Microsoft uses for everything (Including MSDN) - Windows Live ID.

Want to give it a spin? Head on over to www.activelicense.net and create a trial account - It's FREE! Smile
